Costa Rica is a large country with a couple airport options, and multiple cities with beautiful scenery, activities, and resorts.
This itinerary is built specifically with honeymoons and anniversaries in mind to give the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. This itinerary one week, but if you have more time, you may be able to extend your stay and experience more sights and/or cities.
So, let’s get to it – I suggest a split stay with half near Arenal Volcano and half on Papagayo Beach.

Location: Near Arenal Natural Ecological Park (2.5 – 3 hours from SJO or LIR airport)
Staying near Arenal is a must during your stay in Costa Rica. You will travel 2.5 – 3 hours from the airport to get inland near Arenal, but it is well worth it. I recommend transportation arrangements made prior to travel, and I do not recommend getting a car rental unless you know the area well. Arenal will offer a lot of sightseeing and activities within short distances, so you will not need to do extensive traveling once stationed there.

After a few nights near Arenal, take a transfer from resort near Arenal to Papagayo Beach located on the coast in Guanacaste (about 2.5 – 3 hours)

When planning your flights to Costa Rica, it is important to note which airport you will be flying in/out of. The 2 international airports are San Jose (SJO) and Liberia (LIR). For this 7 day itinerary, the arrival flight to Costa Rica can be either airport SJO or LIR.For the return flight, you will definitely want to leave out of LIR if you are staying at Secrets Papagayo Resort & Spa.
