Below is a great itinerary for first time travelers to Italy! If you want to experience the highlights of Italy – and only have 10 days – then this itinerary is one of my go-to’s.

  • Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome

Day 4: Train from Rome to Florence

Statue of David

Suggested number of nights: 2

The fast train from Rome to Florence is about 1hr 30min. Florence is one of the bests cities in Italy to wander around and enjoy all the cute shops and cafes.

Suggested Hotels:

  • Hotel Cellai
  • St Regis Florence
  • Hotel Lungarno
  • Villa Cora

Suggested tours:

  • Hop On Hop off Bus City Tour

  • Day Trip to Pisa (Fast train – 1 hour each way)

Day 6: Train from Florence to Milan

Duomo
Last Supper Milan

Suggested number of nights: 4

The fast train from Florence to Milan is about 1hr 50min. The main sights to see in Milan are the Last Supper and the Duomo. Other than these sights, I suggest staying in Milan near the train station to easily access the west coast (Portofino/Cinque Terre) and the east coast (Venice). Here are suggested tours:

  • Duomo
  • Last Supper
  • Cinque Terre / Portofino Day Trip (Fast Train)
  • Venice Day Trip (Fast Train)
  • Bernina Express through the Swiss Alps (UNESCO)

Day 10: Fly Home
